Well, you had a good run but I guess it had to end. After nine and a half years of service, Claude Julien has been fired as head coach of the Boston Bruins and rumors are starting to swirl as to who can replace the Stanley Cup-winning coach.
It’s clear that Bruins‘ direction wasn’t delighted with the direction the club was going in, with just 58 points after 55 matches, but what is not too clear is precisely what they expected. Almost everyone predicted that the B’s are a team on the outside looking in and it appeared all but certain Julien would be relieved of his post in the finish of the season. The impatience of the new NHL, but reared its ugly head once more and among the best coaches in the league is currently searching for work — that I am sure he will see in short order. The timing could not have been better for the Bruins as it was unlikely they would face much backlash from the general public and the media together with the Patriots celebrating their recent Super Bowl win having a parade in downtown Boston in the same time the Bruins announced the shooting.
BetOnline has put lines who will end up the upcoming full-time coach of the Original Six team from Massachusetts and there are a number of familiar names near the top of the listing. With former Panthers seat boss Gerard Gallant coming in at +200 and the recently fired Ken Hitchcock being offered at +400.
Assistant coach Bruce Cassidy will take over head coaching duties in the meantime and he’s the current favorite to take over the full-time job with +160 chances. Before he had been promoted to the club at the start of the 2016-17 season, Cassidy served as the head coach of the Bruins‘ AHL affiliate in Providence for five decades. It is very likely that Bruins‘ direction has been grooming the Ottawa, Ontario native for the big job so it makes a great deal of feel he’s the favorite.
With groups like the Penguins, Blues, Panthers and possibly the Islanders all using this method with their recent fulltime head coach hirings, I could observe the Bruins doing the identical thing. I am not sure what it takes to maintain a job as a head coach in the NHL anymore however when Claude Julien doesn’t have it, nobody does.
Here’s the entire list of Future full-time head coaches for the Bruins offered at BetOnline:
