When Will Online Sports Betting Be Legal? Projections for All 50 States

It’s been a year since the Supreme Court struck down the federal ban online sports betting, allowing countries to legalize it if they wish.

Where do we stand a year? What states are running a company, and how are they doing? What states are imminently coming on line? And what states are on the backpack? We’ve compiled a comprehensive look at all 50 states (and Washington D.C.), with projected legalization dates for every state.

To make this as easy as possible, there is an interactive map below, and the text for every nation is arranged by the projected year we expect them to come online. Two specialists — Daniel Wallach, leader at Wallach Legal, the nation’s first law company solely devoted to sports betting, also Jake Williams, vice president of regulatory and legal affairs for Sportradar — assisted me with the projections and sub-categories for every nation.

My conversations with Daniel and Jake came in the midst of a flurry of new states . Since the start of May, six (Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Montana, New York and Tennessee). Don’t be surprised if 15+ countries in total are accepting bets from the end of 2019.

That is enough of a preamble; let us dive into the map along with the complete list. If you’d like to navigate directly to your state’s department, please click the links below.
