Former Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio has retired from football after a short spell with side Zenit St Petersburg.
Marchisio ended his stay Juve last year after spending 25 years at the club at which he also won four Cups in addition to seven Serie A titles. He made 55 caps for Italy, the last of that was in 2017.
Its an important decision but a very tough one. It had been right to show it. I made the decision to retire because I realised my body was no longer reacting as the head wanted, Marchisio told colleagues at Juves Allianz Stadium.
He combined Zenit on a agreement in September but reduce his spell short earlier this season due to a persistent knee difficulty after handling.
I spent unforgettable moments on the area… I thank Juventus and the other teams I played , my team-mates, managers and managers who gave me all of this, he further added.
Here I lifted my most important trophies. These are the feelings which will always remain within me.
