Alfie Hewett and Andy Lapthorne face familiar opponents in US Open final

Britain’s Alfie Hewett and Andy Lapthorne sailed into the quad and open singles finals of the US Open men respectively of showcasing a number of their very best tennis after a week.
The set remain on track to potentially complete a US Open double using both including at the doubles finals in their divisions.
Hewett, who performed both his quarter-final and semi-final in the same day due to rain delays, has made it to this stage .
He started the afternoon with a 6-3 7-6 (7-2) victory over Japan’s Shingo Kunieda and following it up with both as powerful semi-final functionality against France’s Nicolas Peifer taking only 75 minutes to emerge on top 6-3 6-4.
„I really like it ,“ Hewett told Sky Sports. „The courts suit my game style really well, I just feel relaxed and that I always believe I can play my best tennis. It’s very great to get rewarded after all the hard work that has gone in all year.“
The seven-time Grand Slam champion will now play in his third consecutive US Open final and it’ll be a re-match from France’s Stephane Houdet of his first one way back into 2017.
On that occasion he ended with honours, but as defending champion here this year he’s hoping for a different outcome this time .
„All I can say is congratulations to Stephane on his own eponymous effect against Gustavo (Fernandez), who’s probably participant of the year in terms of kind,“ the British Number 1 additional. „Therefore I do not doubt that Stephane is playing a few really wonderful tennis right now and I know I am in for one more battle .
„Obviously I would like a while for the 2017 closing here and I’ve had great results against him the last few times we have played the opportunity is there but once more it is taking it point by point and just keeping the mindset I’ve had in the other games.“
However, Hewett isn’t the only Brit looking to flip the tables on a former result against their opponent from the 2019 finals.
Andy Lapthorne booked his spot from the quad singles with a comprehensive victory over Bryan Barten and scored his second victory 6-1 6-3.
He’ll satisfy a player Australia’s Dylan Alcott, on track to complete the calendar Grand Slam at the quads branch if he is victorious.
In Friday’s round-robin encounter between the pair, Lapthorne showcased since returning from harm, some of the highest standard of tennis we’ve seen .
He made himself two match points while shooting on Alcott, almost ending the unbeaten singles run, that stretches back into August 2018 of the World No 1.
However, the No 1 was unable to select the chance to close out the match as it introduced itself.
Talking to Sky Sports, the World No 3 stated:“I’ve learnt I can conquer him. Friday was a difficult one to take. I played well for components and that I had the game in my own strings.
„But I have given myself a second chance to go up against Dylan here and when I get the chance to be in this place again I want to put those balls away and hopefully I can get myself a second match point and I will finish it off this time.“
Following his struggle for the singles games he’ll include in the doubles final together with the world No 1.
„it is a significant day and I’ve got two big games tomorrow,“ Lapthorne stated.
